ITINERARY

Roam Wild Yukon Treks offers different itineraries adapted to hikers needs, weather and wildlife viewing opportunities.

DAY 1 

All hikers meet at 10 am at Roam Wild Yukon Trek base camp to meet our old time trail partner! A short debriefing on safety around horse and wilderness travelling will be conduct as well as a first introduction to horse packing technique. Collaboratively we finish packing the last items on horses, ready to head toward our alpine camp. Our hike will start with an ascent of 275m in the alpine forest leading us to some breathtaking view over the whole Fish Lake valley until we reach a high alpine ridge (1445m) Travelling on this ridge we get an open view on the coastal mountain range. On our way, we observe and identify, plants, tracks, wildlife Ptarmigan, bald eagle, moose. At camp, hikers set up their tent, enjoy some time with the horses and a tasty meal on the fire with great stories under midnight sun.

DAY 2

After a hearty breakfast and horse’s care, time to roam the mountains around us. Different options are available to suit level. A shorter hike leading us to a gorgeous alpine ridge with stunning view on Fish lake and Granger mountain, give us a lot of opportunities to explore biodiversity and wildlife around. Back to camp, you can enjoy some time around fishing, swimming, and special moments with the horses and huskies. For the more adventurous hikers a longer and steeper ascent on the south pass of the valley lead to peak of 1800m with a panoramic view of the Ibex valley, it traverses some rugged ground but the reward at the top is all worth it. An evening around the fire sharing some memories of the day and a tasty meal in pure nature This is what Yukon is all about

This morning we take our camp down, pack our horses and start our descent. The trail we’re following is crossing a beautiful plateau know to be a winter caribou range surrounded by mountains it is remarkable for photography. In summer, we are more likely to see moose, beaver, grizzly, ptarmigan, muskrat, eagle... We stop for a picnic, little rest and let the horse graze, it is a real pleasure to see them pasture around. As you have gain knowledge and create a connection with the packhorse, if you wish you can try leading your own. The hike is a 5-6 hours, At our return to Roam Wild Yukon base camp in late afternoon it is as a different person we are leaving our trail companions
